Consistency is a key component to a successful patient outcome and something I strive to provide to each patient. Thanks to my advanced training with dental laser technology, along with expertise in root canals, and implants, I’m in the unique position of being able to remain my patient’s primary caregiver throughout their treatment journey. From the initial scan and planning stage through to their full treatment and follow-up, I guide them through the entire process. Forget about waiting to see a specialist and then returning to me for an appointment—everything is done in-house under one roof. This has several positive impacts, including the consistency that goes with placing your treatment in a single pair of hands, and facilitating the trust between me and the patient as we take each step of the journey together.
Dr. Casey Newton, DDS, is a general dentist with a focus on dental lasers, root canals and implants. Lighthearted and passionate about serving his local community, Dr. Newton approaches his work with earnest optimism and a convivial spirit, winning over patients and reducing their anxiety by keeping the environment light and positive.
After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia College, he worked in Helena, MT, with one of the foremost laser dentists in the country, before going on to obtain his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Minnesota.
While Dr. Newton has expertise in several areas, his experience with dental lasers remains unique, even among many of his peers. First exposed to these lasers in 2010 while working as a dental assistant, he went on to incorporate them into all facets of his care.
“It’s an incredible technology in terms of what you can do for soft or hard tissue. It also allows me to do fillings without anesthetic for those who don’t want it and is ideal for any dental procedure that involves cutting or contouring oral soft tissue. Lasers can also reduce healing time, speed up recovery, reduce bleeding and infection, and they are highly customizable for each patient, making them a fantastic tool to have in my dentist tool belt".
“Being a father with young children helps me tremendously to relate to my patients at that stage of life. I understand that, just like adults, kids have good days and bad days. Approaching them with compassion and a healthy dose of playfulness can go a long way toward making them feel comfortable in the dental chair".
“It can be a challenging stage of life, but seeing as I’m also in the midst of it, I have tremendous empathy (and patience) when relating to these families. The truth is that I get so much enjoyment from being the primary dental provider for these families and caring for their different generations, that has also made my work more fulfilling and enjoyable.”
Dr. Newton is quick to point out that building trust with a patient does not happen in an instant but takes time—one more reason he likes to get them involved in the diagnosis process. From intraoral imaging to his full arsenal of diagnostic tools, Dr. Newton walks his patients through the experience step-by-step.
“From common day-to-day issues to complex procedures, I’m right here beside my patient. I do not suffer from the ‘white ivory tower’ syndrome, where I am all-knowing and regard my patients as the recipients of care and nothing more. Their diagnosis and decision regarding treatment is a journey we embark on together".
“Guiding them through the process this way helps them understand what to expect from both the procedure and the results”.
“Dentistry is like any other skill—if you want to be exceptional, you must put in the time and hard work to get there.”
After earning his dental degree, Dr. Newton made a passionate commitment to advanced training through continuing education. He has had the distinction of studying with the country’s top educators—including Dr. John C. Kois, DDS, and Dr. Gordon J. Christensen, DDS—and he asserts that this experience forever changed the way he looked at his daily cases.
“The continuing education I pursued made me a lot more well-rounded as a dentist. For example, it taught me the value of doing a lengthy analysis of a patient's dental history and an examination of their facial aesthetics to see how the teeth connect to the rest of the facial structure. Just one of the courses was on composite work, and I continue to receive compliments about my techniques in this area.”
